You Can Become A Literacy Volunteers Tutor!

  • Send in your application! Fill out our online application and submit the form. We will contact you with the date of the next Orientation session.

  • Attend an Orientation session. Staff will give you a broad overview of our agency, what a literacy tutor does, where we need tutors and what to expect from the Training. Current tutors will be there to help answer your questions.

  • Complete the Thinkfinity Online Training—you will receive info about this at the Orientation

  • Attend the Tutor Training course. You can attend either the Basic Literacy 101 and 102 training, the ESOL 101 and 102 training, or all of them.

  • Complete two observations of current tutors. A list of observation sites will be provided for you.

  • Attend either the Basic Literacy 103 or the ESOL 103 with the Program Manager you will be working with. You will receive your tutoring assignment and learn about the specific curriculum and resources you will be using with your class.

  • Start tutoring!

  • Stay in close touch with your Program Manager and attend Literacy Volunteers workshops and social events throughout the year.

  • ENJOY TUTORING! Staff will work closely with you to make sure this is a successful and fulfilling volunteer opportunity.
